GA4 setup

Find your Measurement ID

Your Measurement ID is the short identifier that starts with G-. It tells the Google tag where to send pageviews and events.

Where it lives

  • It’s tied to a web data stream, not the overall account. If you have multiple streams, you’ll have multiple IDs.
  • The Measurement ID is what you paste into GTM or into your website code when you install tracking.
  • For Fluxion, it’s a helpful reference when you’re checking that the right site is wired to the right property.

Quick steps

  1. In GA4, go to Admin.
  2. Under Data collection and modification, open Data streams.
  3. Click your web data stream.
  4. Under Stream details, copy the Measurement ID (starts with G-).
  5. Install tracking using either GTM or a direct tag install. After that, verify that traffic appears.

FAQ

What is a GA4 Measurement ID?

The Measurement ID is the ID that starts with G-. Your Google tag uses it to send pageviews and events into a specific GA4 web data stream.

Is the Measurement ID the same as the GA4 property ID?

No. The GA4 property ID is a numeric ID for the property. The Measurement ID (G-XXXX) is for a web data stream and is used in the tag install.

What if I have more than one data stream?

Each web data stream has its own Measurement ID. Make sure you copy the one for the stream that matches the website you’re installing tracking on.

Where do I paste the Measurement ID?

You paste it into Google Tag Manager (Google Tag / Tag ID field) or into the gtag.js snippet if you’re installing manually.

Small warning

If you copy the wrong Measurement ID, tracking may still “work” — just in the wrong property. That’s why we recommend verifying with a real page load right after installation.
